What this site is, how it's built, and what it isn't.
My Donor Choice is an independent directory. We are not a hospital, a registry operator, a government agency, or a law firm. We link to official sources so you can make your own decision and take action directly with the people who hold your record. If a link on this site is broken, outdated, or wrong, please treat the official source as authoritative, not us, and let us know so we can fix it.
Organ donor registries are run separately in every state: sometimes by the DMV, sometimes by an independent nonprofit organ procurement organization, sometimes both. If you want to register, update, or remove your donor status, you often have to find the right organization first. This site exists to shortcut that search. One directory, all 50 states plus DC, links straight to the official source.
Every entry in the directory is checked against an official or primary source: a state government (.gov) page, the state's DMV or driver-services site, or the official registry operator (often a Donate Life America affiliate, listed by name in each entry). Entries marked Verified have been confirmed this way. Entries marked Confirm directly mean we could not find a clear, authoritative removal process at the time of publishing. For those, we point you to the National Donate Life Registry (RegisterMe.org) as a safe fallback and recommend contacting the named registry operator directly. We update the directory periodically. If something has changed since our last check, the official source always wins.
The organ procurement oversight story is actively contested. Reasonable people, including the organizations directly involved, disagree about what the evidence shows and what it means. Our approach on the News page is to report what happened and who said what, link the original source for each item, and avoid adding our own interpretation. We'd rather send you to read the primary reporting and the organizations' own statements than tell you what to conclude from them.
My Donor Choice is an independent, self-funded project. We are not affiliated with Donate Life America, any state registry, any organ procurement organization, or any government agency. We don't run ads, sell data, or accept sponsorship on this site.
